Setup work
Install the Tidio plugin from WordPress.org and create a Tidio account. Then open Lyro’s data sources, paste your URLs (a priority-page scan covers up to 60 pages; 500 URLs overall), review the question-and-answer pairs Lyro generates, test in the Playground, and switch Lyro on. When you edit a page, you re-sync that URL yourself unless you’re on Plus or Premium, which re-sync weekly.

WPBot
The most configurable option inside WordPress, if you’re happy managing your own AI account.
Setup work
Install the free plugin from WordPress.org, create a paid API key with an AI provider (OpenAI, Gemini, or OpenRouter), and write a system prompt. Then pick the pages, posts, and custom post types to embed into its knowledge base. Keeping that knowledge base in sync automatically when you edit a page takes a Professional or Master license.

Chatling
Lots of AI model choice and channels, with credit math to watch.
Setup work
Create a Chatling account and add your website: the crawler pulls up to 1,000 pages and you choose which to keep (larger sites use a sitemap). Pick an AI model, style the widget, and copy the embed code. There’s no official WordPress plugin, so Chatling’s docs have you paste the code with a header-and-footer plugin or into your theme’s header.php.

HubSpot

Install the HubSpot All-In-One Marketing plugin and connect a HubSpot account. On Free and Starter, chatbots are rule-based: you build them from templates for ticket creation, lead qualification, and meetings, with no custom branching. The AI Customer agent needs a Professional or Enterprise subscription, and it can crawl up to 5,000 URLs on your domain and re-sync them weekly.

Free covers up to 2 users, with HubSpot branding on the chat. Service Hub Starter showed $7/seat/mo billed yearly or $10 billed monthly, both discounted from $20, when we checked. Professional starts at $90/seat/mo billed yearly ($100 monthly) plus a required $1,500 onboarding fee, and its Customer agent uses 50 HubSpot Credits per resolved conversation from the 3,000 included each month.
ChatBot.com
A help desk with an AI agent built in, priced per user.
Setup work
ChatBot.com is now sold as the AI Agent in Text, the company behind LiveChat, and the older drag-and-drop Visual Builder remains only for existing users. Install the “Text: AI chatbot, live chat & ticketing” plugin, connect a Text account, and add knowledge sources: scan your full site, a section, or single pages, and set an auto-update interval. Then set a tone and instructions, turn on skills, preview, and activate.
Strengths
- Inbox, ticketing, and human takeover on every plan

Limits

There’s no free plan, just a 14-day trial with no card. Essential is $25/user/mo ($19 billed yearly) with 10 AI resolutions a month, and Growth is $99/user/mo ($79 billed yearly) with 200. Extra packs of 50 AI resolutions cost $49.50.
ClevrBot
The least setup work for a WordPress site that mainly needs visitors’ questions answered from its own pages. It’s also the newest and does the least.

Upload the plugin zip, activate it, and enter your email. Pick which post types (and any folders of static HTML files) it should learn, click Upload Content to ClevrBot, then tick Enable Chat Widget. There’s no API key, no flow to draw, and no Q&A list to write.
Strengths
- Reads your content from inside WordPress by post type, with no crawler or URL list

- Optional name-and-email requirement before chatting, plus email alerts and chat history in your dashboard

There’s no single best WordPress chatbot plugin for every site. Start with who will be on the other end of the chat, then look at what one AI answer costs you at your traffic level.
- Your team wants to chat with visitors all day Pick a live chat platform with AI on top: Tidio, ChatBot.com, or HubSpot. You get inboxes, routing, and ticketing, and you pay more for them.
- You already run HubSpot’s CRM HubSpot keeps every chat on the contact record. Budget for Professional if you want AI answers rather than rule-based flows.
- You want to pick your AI model or control AI costs yourself WPBot lets you bring your own API key, and Chatling offers 29 models with per-reply credits. Both reward some tinkering.
- You need WhatsApp, Messenger, or other channels Chatling, ChatBot.com, and Tidio cover more than your website.
- You want visitors’ questions answered from your WordPress pages with nothing to build ClevrBot does that with a flat monthly message allowance, and it’s the smallest tool in this list.

Install the plugin
Download the zip, then go to Plugins, Add New Plugin, Upload Plugin, and activate it. Enter your email to start your free trial.
Choose what it learns
Pick the post types, and any folders of static HTML files, that ClevrBot should learn, then click Upload Content to ClevrBot. It learns every published page of those types, so unpublish anything you’re not ready to share.
Turn on the chat widget
Tick Enable Chat Widget and save. A “Chat with us” button appears at the bottom right of your site, and you can set its color and require a name and email before visitors chat.
