A Multilingual Chatbot That Replies in Your Visitor’s Language

The problem

What a Multilingual Chatbot Changes on an English-Only Site

An English-only website

  • A visitor who reads English slowly skims your services page, can’t find the answer, and leaves.
  • Your contact form asks its questions in English, so some visitors never send it.
  • Browser translation can turn a page into Spanish, but it can’t answer “Do you allow pets?”
  • Translating every page costs money, and each copy falls out of date when you edit the original.

With ClevrBot

  • Visitors ask in their own words and their own language, and get the answer in that language.
  • Answers come from your existing pages, so you keep one set of facts up to date.
  • When you edit a page and re-upload your content, answers in every language reflect the change.
  • Contact details a visitor shares are saved with the conversation, so your team can follow up.

Setup guide

How to Set Up a Multilingual Chatbot on Your Site

Setup is the same as any ClevrBot install; what changes is the content you prepare and how you test it.

Install ClevrBot and choose your content

Upload the plugin in WordPress, enter your email, and pick the post types ClevrBot should learn from. Include your services, prices, FAQ, policies, and contact pages. If you already publish translated versions as regular pages or posts, include them too so ClevrBot can use your approved wording.

Put key facts in page text

ClevrBot reads the text of your pages, not images, and the Free and Starter plans read HTML only. Move hours, menus, price lists, and policies out of images and PDFs and into plain page text, so ClevrBot can answer from them in any language. A menu that exists only as a photo or a PDF is invisible to it in every language.

Say which languages your team speaks

Add a line such as “Our office staff speak English and Spanish” to your contact or about page. ClevrBot can then tell a visitor whether a phone call or visit can happen in their language, instead of leaving them to guess. If nobody on staff speaks a language your visitors use, say that too, so expectations are clear from the start.

Explain local terms in plain words

Service names, neighborhood nicknames, and menu items don’t always translate cleanly. A short FAQ that explains them in simple English, such as “HOA fee: a monthly fee paid to the homeowners association,” gives ClevrBot clear facts to put into the visitor’s language.

Turn on the widget and test each language

Set the chat widget to Preview only so just you can see it, then ask your most common questions in each language your visitors use. Check that prices, times, and names come through correctly, and if an answer is off, fix the page it came from and re-upload your content.

Plan who replies to each language

Every conversation, and any contact details in it, lands in your Chat History in the visitor’s language. Decide who answers leads in each language, or draft your reply with a translation tool, so your first human message is one the visitor can read.

Know the limits

Where a Chatbot’s Language Skills Stop

It isn’t certified translation

Instead: Keep leases, contracts, policy documents, and legal notices in their official versions. Have your pages point visitors to those documents or to a staff member rather than relying on a chat summary.

The chat window’s labels are in English

Instead: Replies come back in the visitor’s language, but the buttons, the message box, and the email prompt are in English. Add a short note near your contact details, in your main languages, inviting visitors to type in their own.

There’s no language setting

Instead: You can’t choose a list of languages or force a default. ClevrBot follows the language the visitor types, so test the ones that matter to you, especially less common languages.

It only knows what your pages say

Instead: If a fact isn’t on your site, ClevrBot won’t provide it in any language, and it won’t guess. Add the missing detail to a page and re-upload your content, and every language benefits at once.

Your team still does the follow-up

Instead: ClevrBot answers questions and captures contact info. A person on your team replies and handles next steps, ideally in the visitor’s language.

FAQ

Multilingual Chatbot Questions

Still have a question? Talk to our team.

Which languages does ClevrBot support?

There’s no fixed list and nothing to switch on. ClevrBot replies in the language the visitor writes in, whether that’s Spanish or something less common. For less common languages, test a handful of real questions first and, if you can, have a native speaker check the answers.

Do I need to translate my website first?

No. ClevrBot reads your pages in the language they’re written in and writes each answer in the visitor’s language, so an English-only site can answer a Spanish speaker from day one. If you already have translated pages published as regular WordPress pages or posts, include them in your content selection so ClevrBot can draw on your own wording.

How does ClevrBot decide which language to use?

It goes by the words the visitor types, not by browser, device, or location settings, so there’s no language menu for the visitor to find. A question typed in Spanish gets a Spanish answer. A visitor who writes in English gets English, even if their browser is set to another language.

Will visitors get the same answer in every language?

The facts will match, because every answer comes from the same pages. The wording will differ, since ClevrBot writes each reply fresh in the visitor’s language. That’s why it’s worth testing anything that must come through exactly, such as prices, times, addresses, product names, and policy terms.

Does a multilingual chatbot cost extra?

No. Language support comes with every plan, including the first 100 free messages, and there’s no add-on to buy for each language. The Starter plan is $49 a month for 1,000 messages, and if a busy month runs over, you can buy extra packs of 500 messages that roll over from month to month.

Can ClevrBot collect contact details from non-English speakers?

Yes. After a visitor’s first message, the chat window shows a short form for their email and, optionally, their name. The form is labeled in English, but the conversation around it stays in the visitor’s language, and everything is saved in your Chat History so you can follow up in their language.

Is it accurate enough for legal, medical, or insurance topics?

ClevrBot repeats what your pages say, but it isn’t a licensed professional or a certified translator. For legal matters, health instructions, or coverage details, have your pages point visitors to a person or the official document, and treat the chat as the start of the conversation. A line on your site such as “A licensed agent answers all coverage questions” gives ClevrBot the right thing to say.
